Description
760 x 500 Oil on Canvas. A grey sea squall builds over the beautiful bays of Coolum Beach. White crests descending as each wave overlaps one another in its haste to the shoreline, drawing you in with their movement. This painting has captured the atmosphere of an approaching storm, utilizing many different colours and movement in the waves, to build the anticipation. Ominous, dark clouds are building up on the horizon, casting shadows of dark greys, blues and purples, in contrast to the turquoise and yellowy green brighter, forefront colours, where the sun is still filtering through to some foreground waves and shoreline. The sandstone rocks so customary to Coolum, have darkened and deepened with the changing light of the atmosphere. The sea cliffs are peppered with buildings, trees and native foliage. It’s a scene captured from the lookout at the end of the Coolum boardwalk.
